The Vision and build

The art structure is 25 feet long, 6 inches wide, and stands 12 feet in elevation from the ground. It will encompass all aspects of skateboard technology. For example, the structure will have a standard skateboard deck, four large wooden wheels, refurbished skateboard decks used as axles, and support ladders for climbing access to the top. While on top of Galactica, participants will have the opportunity to interact with foot sensors and LED Lights that replicate the constellations attached below the deck. Underneath the structure, participants can walk or ride their bikes to see a hand-painted mural of mythical Zodiac creatures from the various galaxies in orbit.

The Afterlife from Burning man

After construction, and presentation at various art events on the West Coast, the skateboard deck will be detached from the structure and transported to communities whose art skills are often overlooked due to their socioeconomic backgrounds.

The deck will serve as an art canvas that brings community residents together to demonstrate their innate art skills. Afterward, the skateboard deck will be transported to various art events in California for everyone to see.

Fundraising & Donors

Bringing Galactica to life will require an enormous undertaking from the Skateboard Team. And unfortunately, we can’t do this on our own. That is why we are asking for community support and donations so that we can begin construction in the San Francisco Bay Area in May of 2023.

The funds raised will be used for all aspects of the project, including renting space in San Francisco to build the structure, and purchasing materials like screws, bolts, beams, wood, solar panels, and electronic equipment. Most importantly, the funds raised will assist to transport the art piece to various art communities in California, particularly to communities of color whose art skills are often ignored.

Fundraising is an enormous task, and the Skateboard Team needs your help to bring Galactica to life and take it to a community near you.
